China-ASEAN My Dream of Blue Ocean Summer Camp Closed at Tianjin University

On December 12, 2015, the closing ceremony of China-ASEAN My Dream of Blue Ocean Summer Camp was held at Tianjin University (TJU). Over twenty students from Chinese and ASEAN universities have been present, and other participants included Prof. Chen Zhihua, Dean of School of International Education, Assoc. Prof. Zhang Zhen, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation and representatives from School of Environmental Science and School of Civil Engineering.
As one of CAECW program, the summer camp was conducted to inspire the students to pay close attention to ocean development and to enhance their awareness of protecting ocean. To promote academic exchanges between Chinese and ASEAN students, the Forum on Talents Training in Marine Science and Technology was also held at the same time. Prof. Lam Wei Haur, Peiyang Scholar from School of Civil Engineering, was invited to give a keynote report themed around renewable marine energy. Afterwards, all the participating students made reports on different topics including solar seawater desalination, China-ASEAN marine problems, Mekong River and research on Haihe River and Siem Reap Rive. Then they shared their gains and feelings during this summer camp. At last, the teacher representative from School of Environmental Science made a review of the summer camp and expressed full commendation for the students’ reports.
At the closing ceremony, Prof. Chen Zhihua firstly expressed congratulations for the success of the summer camp and gave a brief introduction to TJU’s international education. He then pointed out that, through the activity, students could not only learn about frontier technologies in the marine field, but also have a deeper understanding of TJU, and more importantly, make more foreign friends. Prof. Chen also welcomed more students coming and studying at TJU, especially students from ASEAN countries.
Lucky Caesar Direstiyani from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember expressed her wholehearted gratitude to all the teachers and staff for organizing this activity. She said that, though the camp lasted for merely two weeks, the students have gained much knowledge as well as precious friendship. It would be an unforgettable experience for them.
At the end of the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Zhang, in the name of Office of International Cooperation, gave her heartfelt thanks to Chinese and ASEAN partners for their strong support and to the students for their active participation. She also expected that this activity would inspire students’ interests in cross-campus exchanges, building a bridge of friendship between TJU and other universities.
